The question I asked myself today: Why do I post on Sundays?
And the answer came easily – it’s not really about Sunday at all.

It’s about the moments when clarity finally arrives… sometimes on a Thursday morning, sometimes on a Friday night, and sometimes only after the family is settled, the work is done, and life gives me five or more quiet minutes.

These weekly reflections keep me aligned – and they’re part of the books/articles I’ve been building up, part of how I process growth, balance, and the constant change around us.

This week (and the one before it) came with its share of illness, events, deadlines, and decision-making. But it also came with highlights: the Hampshire hashtag#Business Awards, ongoing accreditations, long-term planning for the next 5–10 years, team growth, and the last big event coming up before we shift into hashtag#Christmas mode and some well-earned family travel time.

As we move gently toward the holiday season, the rhythm of work starts to feel more intentional—less about pushing and more about aligning. When we glide with clarity, even the busiest weeks feel balanced.

This week took us to our final hashtag#exhibition of the year in Birmingham, a great way to wrap up the events season before a few last networking sessions and our Christmas team get-together. It feels like closing one chapter while quietly preparing for the next.

A real highlight was completing our hashtag#Skills Bootcamp. Watching learners showcase not only their technical ability but also their soft skills, communication, teamwork, and confidence was an incredible reminder of why we do what we do. Huge gratitude to our hashtag#trainers, hashtag#learners, and the whole team that supports this journey.

On a personal note, one of the most joyful moments of the week was attending my child’s singing performance today—a heart-warming pause that reminds me what true hashtag#balance looks like. And of course, the week began and ended with Dogtor Coco, our Chief Happiness Officer 🐶, who has an unmatched talent for bringing calm and smiles exactly when needed.

One quiet thought stayed with me this week: Hard work doesn’t fail us. Misaligned work does. hashtag#GlideNotGrind

This Sunday reflection comes after a week full of hashtag#people, conversations, and hashtag#momentum.

The networking with Network My Club at the hashtag#Southampton Utilita Bowl Cricket Stadium was genuinely energising — thoughtful conversations with business owners who are building, questioning, and adapting in real time.

That energy carried straight into our hashtag#Step8Up hashtag#Christmas get-together. What a moment.

A room full of appreciation, laughter, awards, and a team that continues to show up with heart and commitment. Growth feels different when it’s shared.

We also had a brilliant workshop with Alan S Adams on the art of selling and persuasion (see some part of his talk below with an article coming up), delivered through DAVID HYNER‘s monthly session — a reminder that influence is less about pressure and more about clarity and trust.

As part of these r#eflections, I’m starting to share something new.

Over the coming weeks, I’ll be releasing my entire Glide, Not Grind book — in small, practical pieces — here on hashtag#LinkedIn and on our website. No big launch. No hype. Just lessons, frameworks, and implementation.

One of the articles coming out (thanks Alan!) explores this simple but brutal truth:

❌ No strategy, no tactics → You drift… and die slowly
❌ Lots of tactics, no strategy → You die very quickly from action without direction

The book is intentionally small.

Because implementation beats information every single time.

As we gently slow into the holiday period, some posts will soften, some will pause — and that’s okay. Reflection needs space.

As I write this while travelling, heading into the hashtag#festive season, I find myself reflecting on a simple CEO productivity truth that keeps coming up again and again:

Sustainable progress happens when hashtag#People, hashtag#Process, and hashtag#Tools are aligned.

That’s Agile in its truest form — not a framework on a slide, but a way of living and leading.

This year reminded me that hard work alone doesn’t create outcomes.

hashtag#Clarity does.
hashtag#Alignment does.

And knowing when to move fast — and when to pause — does.

To everyone who has been part of the journey this year — our team, learners, partners, clients, councils, mentors, and fellow founders — thank you. Your trust, honesty, and collaboration are what allow us to glide instead of grind, even in the busiest seasons.

Movement is not the same as progress.

I’ve been sitting with this thought all week — both in business and in marathon training. You can run more miles, attend more meetings, deliver more sessions… and still not move forward in the way you hoped.

That’s because technique beats time.

In running, poor form over long distances leads to injury.

In business, misaligned effort over long periods leads to burnout.

This is one of the next ideas explored in Glide, Not Grind:

Progress doesn’t come from doing more.
It comes from doing the right things in the right sequence.

At Step8Up Academy, we see this daily. Training only works when it’s aligned to outcomes — productivity, confidence, capability, and growth. More courses don’t help. Better-designed learning does. That’s when skills stick and momentum builds.

Marathon prep has reinforced the same lesson for me. When posture, breathing, pacing, and recovery are aligned, running feels lighter. When they’re not, every step feels like a grind — no matter how motivated you are.

As the year draws to a close, I’m reflecting less on how busy it’s been and more on where alignment has made effort feel almost effortless. That’s where real progress lives.

So I’ll end this Sunday reflection with the question I’m asking myself too:

Where are you putting in the miles — but missing the technique that would help you glide instead of grind?

And I’m on the move — heading out for a speaker event.

Behind the scenes, we’ve also been working on website updates.

✓ Not finished yet — but evolving. Like all good systems do.

Not everyone needs to run a marathon – but running a business has many parallels.

How do you sustain momentum without burning out? How do you balance performance with health? How do you keep going for the long run?

Marathon training makes one thing very clear: you don’t succeed by just running more miles. You succeed by paying attention to nutrition, strength, recovery, pacing, and planning. Ignore any one of these, and effort turns into injury.

Running a business is no different.
✓  Grinding harder without alignment exhausts people.
✓  Gliding with intention builds endurance — for leaders, teams, and organisations.

At Step8Up, we see this connection every day. Skills don’t land without preparation. Teams don’t perform without wellbeing. Growth doesn’t last without balance.

Not everyone needs to run a marathon — just like not every business needs to scale fast — but every business does need sustainable capability.

This run, like the business journey, also serves a bigger purpose. I’m running in support of Walk the Walk, helping raise awareness and funds for breast cancer support and research. It’s a reminder that progress feels better when it contributes beyond ourselves.

The week itself reflected that same energy — strong conversations at Network My Club, meaningful strategy discussions, and collaborations that reinforce the power of aligned communities. The road ahead feels challenging, but exciting.

The lesson I’m carrying forward from mile to mile — and into the boardroom:

✓  Transformation doesn’t come from heroic bursts of effort.
✓  It comes from being one consistent choice away — in health, in leadership, and in life.

And this isn’t just about a run — it’s about what the run represents.

Marathon prep has a funny way of stripping things back to the basics. You can’t fake it. You can’t rush it. You can’t skip recovery and expect results. Business, health, and long-term vision work exactly the same way.

You’re always one choice away —
One choice to pace better.
One choice to fuel properly.
One choice to align effort instead of grinding blindly.

That theme ran through the whole week.

✓ We started strong with a team workshop, laying down clear marketing direction and momentum.

✓ We teamed up with the Hampshire Business Show — formal announcements coming soon.

Movement and connections:

✓ Network My Club (more than once!) — meeting brilliant people from across the region
✓ Conversations with councils around upcoming tenders
✓ Locking in the event calendar for courses, talks, and voices we’re bringing together
And alongside all that — balance.

✓  Some really good family time at Bicester Village, plenty of laughs, perspective, and of course Coco 🐶, our Chief Happiness Officer, keeping things grounded.
✓ Marathon training continues. The business keeps moving. The vision stays clear.
Not because we’re doing more — but because we’re doing what matters, in the right order.

Founders don’t get medals for starting strong. We’re measured by how we finish.

Today I ran the Richmond Half Marathon.

Not because everyone needs to run.
Not because running is for everybody.

But because it reminds me of something very real about leadership:
You don’t get over the line by sprinting the first mile.
You get there by pacing, fuelling, adjusting, and staying mentally steady when things get uncomfortable.

This week felt exactly like that.

A huge volume of tasks completed.

Partnerships progressed. Strategic conversations moving forward. One innovation discussion in particular is shaping up beautifully — watch this space 👀

We attended a fantastic Big Pitch event with Adam and the team with Jason, Nick, Mari and others — great organisation of the Big Pitch 🎉 and bold founders stepping up, strong energy in the room.

Great meeting with Hattie and Becky from Lee Peck Media — sharp thinking, smart positioning, exciting direction.

A powerful strategy session with Josh from Hampshire Business Show — more to come there soon.

And in between the business miles:
🎥 Recorded more “One Choice Away” videos — I hope they’re resonating.
👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Proper family time.
🐶 And of course, Coco keeping the mood balanced as our Chief Happiness Officer.

Marathon training keeps reinforcing the same lesson I see in business every day:

Grinding creates fatigue.
Alignment creates endurance.

Running a business is a marathon — but a successful one requires strategy, recovery, strong partnerships, and consistent choices. Not heroic bursts.

Next week is half term. We’ll still be working — but in a balanced way — and celebrating the team properly.

Because sustainable growth beats chaotic growth every time.

So today, I run steady.
Tomorrow, we build steady.
